T he first and only University of Delaware student-athlete to serve as team captain for three different sports, Clyde earned nine varsity letters as a point guard in basketball, standout runner in cross country, and a miler in track & field during an outstanding career with the Blue Hens.
After serving four years in the Navy, he returned home and starred in every sport in which he competed. As a course record-setter in cross country, he led teams to two undefeated seasons and a second place Middle Atlantic Conference finish in 1954. As a three-year standout in basketball, he was an outstanding ball-handler and playmaker who appeared in 62 career games and finished as a 74 percent career free throw shooter.
He also broke the UD freshman mile record against Penn at Franklin Field in his very first mile run in outdoor track & field.
Clyde is a member of the Delaware Legends Basketball and Salesianum High School Halls of Fame. A native of Wilmington, Del. he retired as a math teacher in the Christina School District and remains a loyal and passionate Blue Hens supporter. He earned his degree in elementary education from Delaware in 1957.
