Volleyball (2006-09)
The most decorated student-athlete in Delaware volleyball history, Stephanie became the school’s first and only All-American in the sport when she was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in both 2007 and 2008 while playing for head coach Bonnie Kenny.
A native of Long Beach, Calif., Stephanie was a four-year standout defensive specialist, leading the squad to a combined record of 92-38, three straight Colonial Athletic Association titles, and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2007 and 2008. A three-year team MVP, she earned first team AVCA All-East Region honors in 2007 and 2008, was a three-time first team All-CAA selection, and was named the CAA Defensive Specialist of the Year twice.
She also was named to the CAA All-Tournament team three times and earned regular season all-tournament honors on seven occasions. She set school and CAA records with 2,401 career digs and her school record of appearing in 488 straight sets ranked No. 3 in NCAA history upon her graduation.
An outstanding student, she was named the CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for volleyball in 2009, was a three-time CAA Academic Honor Roll recipient, earned CoSIDA District 2 All-Academic notice in 2009, and was Delaware’s NCAA Woman of the Year nominee as a senior.
She earned her degree in finance with minors in economics and management information systems in 2010. Her husband, Herb Courtney (Delaware ‘08), was a starting forward for the UD men’s basketball team in 2003-08.
