After waiting for the courts to dry from Saturday evening's rain, the two squads competed in two rounds. The first round featured five singles matches and a lone doubles match up, while the second round was purely doubles with three matches being contested.
Delaware won two singles matches in the second round, as Troy Beneck continued to go undefeated in singles flight one, winning 6-1, 6-3 over Nikoloz Kurdadz. Ryan Kent (at right) also won his singles draw against Darius Frick 6-4, 6-2.
The Hens wrapped up round one with a doubles win, seeing Andrew Vorobyov and Nolan Gelman defeated Skyler Davis and Dan Koehler 6-2, 6-4.
The Hens went 2-1 in the second round of doubles action, including an extra-point win from Beneck and Adam Lawton, who defeated Badr Ouabdelmoumen and Skyler Davis 9-7. Kent and Jason Derene picked up the second doubles win 8-5 over Dan Hanson and Bryan Nguyen.
In the opening round of the singles, Lawton forced a third set against Ouabdelmoumen, but the Dragon ultimately won 2-6, 7-6(3) 11-9. Derene also forced a third set against Bryan Nguyen but fell 6-4, 2-6, 5-10. Three set matches seemed to be the theme for Delaware in the first round, as Ian LeBlanc fell to Jegananthan Srinivasan 1-6, 7-6(5), 2-10.
Delaware returns to the hard court next weekend when the Hens travel to the Huntington Park, Va. for the Hampton Roads Tournament. Action is set to begin on Oct. 7 and run through Oct. 8.
