Delaware?s Bats Stalled as Blue Hen Baseball Falls to UNCW 7-0 in CAA Series Finale

NEWARK, Del. – The Blue Hens' bats were stymied by a quartet of Seahawks pitchers Sunday afternoon as the University of Delaware baseball squad was shutout by UNCW, 7-0, in the finale of a Colonial Athletic Association weekend series at Bob Hannah Stadium.
The Blue Hens (8-11, CAA 3-3), who were coming off a 3-2 win on Saturday over the Seahawks, kept getting men on base with nine hits and two walks, but never seemed to get the key run-scoring base knock needed as Delaware left 11 men on the bases.
Cameron Travalini, Jimmy Yezzo and Tyler Powell each collected multiple hits for Delaware in the defeat.
UNCW (9-10, 5-1) took a 3-0 lead after the Seahawks tallied runs in the first, second and fourth innings, which included Corey Dick's solo home run over the left field wall in the second inning.
Delaware was within three runs and in striking distance in the top of the ninth inning before a leadoff walk to UNCW pinch-hitter Micah Jerrett began the scoring for the Seahawks. Michael Bass added a sacrifice bunt that advanced Jarrett into scoring position. Michael Campbell laced a RBI double to left field that plated Jarret for the inning's first run.
After an intentional walk to Tyler Molinaro and an infield single by Andrew Cain loaded the bases, Thomas Pope smashed a three-run, bases-clearing triple to the center field wall to give UNCW a seven-run edge.
Blue Hens starter Chad Kuhl (1-3) suffered the difficult loss despite a season-high 10 strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched. The sophomore right-hander surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and three walks.
Devon Pearson tossed one scoreless inning of relief that reduced his earned-run average to 0.93 over eight appearances this season.
Jordan Ramsey (1-1) set the tone for the Seahawks as the righty scattered seven hits and two walks over 5.2 innings en route to the victory.
The threesome out of the bullpen for UNCW, Jack Lane, Tom Timoney and William Prince, combined for 3.1 scoreless innings and held UD to only two base hits.
Junior right-hander Matt Soren is set to take the mound for the Blue Hens when they travel to Dover Tuesday to play a non-conference game against Delaware State at 3 p.m. at Soldier Field.
