Gelman, Beneck, Lawton Win Titles for University of Delaware Men's Tennis at Saint Joseph?s Tournament

Leading the Blue Hens were Nolan Gelman (at right), who captured the Flight 2 Singles championship, and the doubles team of Troy Beneck and Adam Lawton, who won the Flight 1 Doubles title.
Also for the Hens, Beneck finished as the Flight 1 Singles runner-up, Lawton advanced to the Flight 1 Singles semifinals, Evan Andrews advanced to the Flight 3 Singles semifinals, Jason Derene advanced to the second round of Flight 2 Singles, Ryan Kent advanced to the second round of the Flight 3 Singles, and Alex Sweet was defeated in the first round of the Flight 4 Singles competition.
In doubles play, Beneck and Lawton teamed to capture the Flight 1 Doubles championship while Andrew and Sweet advanced to the Flight 2 Doubles semifinals, and Gelman and Derene advanced to the Flight 1 Doubles quarterfinals.
Gelman captured the Flight 2 singles title as he downed Ramy Bekheit of Monmouth, Trevor Donovan of LaSalle, Chris Seitz of Villanova, and Vim De Alwis of Penn.
Beneck defeated Freddy Marinkowski of Monmouth, James Oliver of Lafayette, and Skyler Davis of Drexel before falling in the Flight 1 title match to Badr Ouabdelmoumen of Drexel. Lawton advanced all the way to the semifinals before falling to Ouabdelmoumen.
In doubles, Beneck and Lawton upended teams from Villanova, Drexel, and Saint Joseph's before downing Villanova's team of Thomas O'Brien and Kelly Donaldson 8-6 in the title match.
Delaware will continue action next weekend at the University of Pennsylvania Tournament.
