Troy Beneck (at right) was the highlight of the day for the Blue Hens, who fell to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in Colonial Athletic Association play.
Beneck picked up the team's lone singles point with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Mason's Jordan Dyke in the top flight. With the win, Beneck finished the regular season with an 18-8 record in No. 1 singles and a mark of 20-10 overall on the year, the first 20-win season of his career. The 20 wins are good to tie for third in Delaware men's tennis history for singles wins in a season. With a career mark of 51-29, the junior sits tied for sixth place in UD history.
Adam Lawton had a career-best eight-game winning streak snapped with a tough 7-6 (5), 6-4 loss to Jimmy Davis in No. 2 singles. Lawton finished the regular season with a school-record 26-6 mark.
In doubles action, Beneck teamed up with Lawton for an 8-4 win against Taylor Sargent and Tanner Baine in the top flight. The duo improved to 23-7 in doubles play this season, the most doubles wins in a single season in Hens' history. Beneck and Lawton are the only pair in UD history to surpass 20 wins in a season.
Nolan Gelman and Evan Andrews also picked up a doubles win with a hard-fought 9-8 (3) victory over Scott Keaton and Davis to help the Hens take the doubles team point.
The Patriots improved to 14-7 overall and 4-1 in the CAA with the team victory.
The Colonial Athletic Association Tournament will be held April 18-21 on the campus of William & Mary.
