Delaware Men's Tennis To Open Fall Slate At Navy Invitational

On Friday, the Hens will take on the Mids before facing Temple on Saturday. Both matches are slated for 2 p.m. Delaware will wrap up the weekend with a 9 a.m. match against St. Bonaventure on Sunday.
Weather permitting, all contests will be played outside on the USNA Tennis Courts. The Tose Family Tennis Center will be used if the matches need to be moved inside.
In the non-team scoring meet, players will compete in a round robin flight tournament format throughout the entire weekend.
John MarteDelaware, a squad that went 5-11 overall last season and competed in the CAA quarterfinals, returns five letterwinners from last year's roster while adding six newcomers to the mix.
Austin Longacre Adam LawtonJoining Lawton as one of the longest tenured Hens is fellow senior Troy Beneck (Wilmington, Del.). Beneck, also an All-CAA Second team honoree, completed his junior year with a mark of 21-10, good to tie for third place in school history for singles wins in a season. The three-time letterwinner is sixth all-time on the Delaware career singles records list with a mark of 52-29.
The duo of Beneck and Lawton teamed up for a school-record 23 victories in doubles play, besting the previous record of 19 wins. For the second straight season, the pair earned All-CAA Doubles Third Team honors for their performance in 2013.
“Our two seniors are training hard and we are looking forward to seeing what kind of legacy they will leave here at the University of Delaware,” Longacre remarked.
The Hens will continue their fall season Sept. 20-22 at the Saint Joseph's Tournament and Sept. 27-29 at the Penn Tournament. The team will then compete at the Lehigh Tournament (Oct. 5-6) before individuals compete at the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regionals Oct. 17-22.
