Delaware Women's Soccer Drops Second Game of Road Trip as Hens Fall to Elon 2-0

ELON, N.C. – The University of Delaware women's soccer team lost its second consecutive game Sunday as the Blue Hens fell to Elon 2-0 on the road in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup.
Delaware, who was facing Elon (5-9, 1-5 CAA) for the first time as a CAA foe, more than doubled the Phoenix's shot total, but was unable to get on the scoreboard.
Elon goalkeeper Kate Murphy kept the Blue Hens (6-7-1, 2-2-1 CAA) off the board with 11 saves in the game. The senior tallied her fourth shutout of the season Sunday and gave Elon its first every CAA victory.
Scott GrzendaThe Phoenix began the scoring at the 16:29 mark as Raychel Diver scored her first goal of the season to give Elon a 1-0 lead. The Phoenix added to their lead later in the first half when Sydney Schilling converted a penalty kick opportunity and gave the Phoenix a 2-0 advantage.
Nikki Adams led Delaware with six shots on the game, while Rachel Vaccaro tallied three shots. Emily Market and Maddie Brosler registered two shots each for the Blue Hens in the losing effort. Jess Figueroa recorded two saves in goal for UD.
The 2-0 defeat was the fourth time Delaware has been shutout in 2014. UD is now 1-4-1 in road contests this season.
Delaware currently sits in sixth place in the CAA standings. Only the top six teamsa season's end advance to the CAA Tournament.
Delaware will return to action this weekend for the final two home games of the season. The Blue Hens will face Towson at 7 p.m. Friday and will take on James Madison in the home finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
