Delaware Women's Track & Field Competes in Distance Events on First Day of ECAC Championships at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Three University of Delaware distance runners competed during the first day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday afternoon at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium.
Several events were postponed due to rain during the opening day of the three-day regional competition, including the discus in which Delaware's Alana Pantale was scheduled to compete.
In action on the track, Delaware's Katie Deinert was the top finisher for the Blue Hens as she placed 15th overall in the 10,000 meters. Deinert, who was the Colonial Athletic Association runner-up in the event earlier this month, finished with a time of 36:47.21.
Delaware had two competitors in the 5,000 meters as Katrina Steenkamer placed 35th with a time of 17:19.28 and Michele Lambert was 43rd overall with a clocking of 17:50.53.
A full day of competition is on tap for Saturday as LaToya James runs in the 100 meter hurdles trials at 11:15 a.m. and the semifinals at 12:25 p.m., Amira Idris takes part in the long jump at 12 noon, Lindsay Prettyman runs in the 800 meter trials at 12:50 p.m., Pantale competes in the hammer at 2 p.m., and the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Betsy Erlanger, Emily Gispert, Shanel Dickens, and Melissa Mazzo competes in the trials at 2 p.m.
On Sunday, Kelsey Evancho competes in the high jump at 10 a.m., Paige Morris takes part in the triple jump at 11 a.m., and Pantale sees action in the shot put at 12:30. In addition, finals will be held in the 100 meter hurdles (12:50 p.m.), 800 meters (1:30 p.m.), and 4 x 800 meter relay (2:50 p.m.) for those who advance out of Saturday's trials.
Prettyman was the CAA Outstanding Track Performer at the CAA meet as she won both the 800 and 1,500 meter races; Idris won the CAA long jump championship; and James won the 100 meter hurdles title; Morris was the triple jump champion.
Three Blue Hens earned All-East honors at the ECAC meet a year ago when James placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles, Idris was fifth in the long jump and ninth in the triple jump, and Morris was eighth in the triple jump.
