Michelle McEnroe, Mary Aleixo, Abby Thomas, and Andrea Gunderson accounted for the Delaware scoring and each notched their first goals of the season.
Delaware (6-5, CAA 2-0) dictated the flow of the game from the start. The Blue Hens scored three goals in the first half and their suffocating defense did not allow Charleston (4-7, CAA 0-2) to launch a shot until the second half.
Scott GrzendaIncluding UD's 4-1 victory over UNCW Friday, eight different Blue Hen players have accounted for Delaware's last eight goals.
“None of the teams we play can really just key in on a couple of girls to stop. We really moved the ball around and that gave a lot of girls some good opportunities to score,” said Grzenda.
Delaware's four-goal performance matches Friday's season-high. The last time UD scored at least four goals in back-to-back games was 2011 when the Blue Hens defeated Towson 4-2 and UNCW 4-0 in consecutive games.
In total, Delaware outshot the Cougars 26-3 and had eight players with at least two shots in the game.
“This game showed what kind of team we can be when we are playing well,” said Gunderson, who scored her first career goal in the winning effort. “We really had great energy today. The beginning of the CAA schedule is kind of like a brand new season and we are really happy about the way we have started conference play.”
Charleston's lone goal came at 83:46 mark when Nicole Koretsky was able to score on a free kick.
Elise Krause had a game-high two assists in the game, while Maddy Parker, Mikala Kin, and Gunderson had one assist each for UD.
The Blue Hens will return to action Saturday as Delaware will make the short trip to Drexel for its first true road game since Sept. 7. The contest is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
