SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The University of Delaware men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker Wednesday afternoon as Swarthmore defeated the Blue Hens, 4-3, at the Mullan Tennis Center.
The Blue Hens (0-9) narrowly lost the doubles point, but pulled out three singles wins.
Freshman Matt Renzi (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) collected his second straight victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ari Cepelewicz in No. 3 singles.
Junior Tim Puterio (Kingston, R.I./South Kingstown) earned his first victory at the No. 5 slot with a 7-5, 6-2 decision against Matt Hirsch.
Freshman Colin Wong (Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia/SMK Kota Kemuning) also recorded his second straight win by defeating Josh Powell, 7-5, 6-2, in the sixth flight.
“This is a real heartbreaker of a match as we had chances on every court. Progress comes slowly, but it's still progress.”
