Blue Hens Open Home Slate with Doubleheader vs. Rider

NEWARK, Del. – After last week's snowstorm canceled UD's weekend matchups, the University of Delaware baseball squad will make its 2015 home debut Tuesday with a doubleheader vs. Rider.
Jim ShermanThe Hens 2015 campaign has been marred by cancelations and postponements. UD has had 17 games postponed or canceled and has only played five games in 24 days so far this season. Delaware was supposed to play Rider in a doubleheader Monday but those games were postponed due to the weather.
The Blue Hens defeated Canisius 5-1 in their last time on the diamond. Redshirt freshman Ron Marinaccio was outstanding in his first career start as the righty pitched 6.1 innings, allowed just five hits, and did not surrender an earned run in the winning effort.
Matt Hornich and Andrew Pechstein will get the starts for Delaware and each will be making their first collegiate start Tuesday against Rider. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium with game two starting shortly after game one's conclusion.
HEN SCRATCHINGS:
· Tuesday will be the 48th and 49th meetings between the Blue Hens and Broncs. The first meeting took place in 1970 and Delaware leads the all-time series 52-25. UD won two of the three games play between the schools last season.
· The Blue Hens are second in the CAA in fielding percentage (.967) and in ERA (3.56).
· Joe Giacchino and Tyler Powell lead Delaware with five hits this season.
· Jeremy Ake leads UD with four RBI.
· The Hens have played three fewer games than any other team in the CAA.
· Delaware will host in-state rival Wilmington (Del.) Wednesday before traveling to the Fordham Tournament this weekend.
