Delaware Taking 15 Student-Athletes to ECAC Championships this Weekend

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The University of Delaware will be taking 15 student-athletes to compete in 12 different events this weekend as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I women's outdoor track & field championships gets underway.
The three-day event, which will be held at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium, will begin on Friday, March 15 and continue through Sunday. Delaware placed 30th in the team standings in 2014 when 13 UD athletes competed. The Blue Hens are coming off a fourth place team finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships May 4-5
In action for the Blue Hens will be sophomore Tyler Jackson in the 100 meters, 4 x 100 meter relay, and 4 x 400 meter relay, junior Latazah Coleman in the 200 meters, 4 x 100 meter relay, and 4 x 400 meter relay, freshman Liz McGroarty in the 1,500 meters and 4 x 800 meter relay, and sophomore Becky Gessler and senior Megan Flynn in the 10,000 meters.
Also, senior Breanna Nicholson in the 400 meter hurdles and 4 x 400 meter relay, senior Amira Idris in the long jump, triple jump, and 4 x 100 meter relay, freshman Sarah Hillman in the shot put and discus, sophomore Paige Thompson-Charles in the 4 x 100 meter relay, sophomore Leslie Ope in the 4 x 100 meter relay and 4 x 400 meter relay, junior Carolyn Darr in the 4 x 100 meter relay and 4 x 400 meter relay, and senior Melissa Mazzo, junior Shanel Dickens, freshman Angie Spadaccini, and sophomore Betsy Erlanger in the 4 x 800 meter relay.
Coleman also qualified in the 100 meters but will not be competing in that event at the ECAC meet. In addition, senior Katrina Steenkamer qualified in the 5,000 meters but will not be competing.
The action will get underway for the Blue Hens on Friday at 5 p.m. when Hillman competes in the discus and Flynn and Gessler run in the 10,000 meters. On Saturday, the Hens will begin action at 2:45 p.m. with the 4 x 100 meter trials. Sunday's action begins at 11 a.m. with Idris competing in the triple jump.
Idris is the Hens' top returning performer from last year's meet when she placed 11th in the long jump. She also placed fifth in the long jump and ninth in the triple jump in 2013 and 18th in the triple jump in 2012.
