Hillman 11th in Discus for Delaware at First Day of ECAC Track & Field Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Three student-athletes competed for the University of Delaware Friday evening as the annual Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Track & Field Championships got underway at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium.
Leading the way for the Blue Hens was freshman Sarah Hillman (Polytech/Dover, Del.) who posted an 11th place finish in the 23-person field. Her throw of 139-feet, 2-inches was just 18 inches shy of a top 10 finish.
Brown's Josie Natrasevschi won the event with a toss of 167-7 and was followed by Taylor Johnson of Monmouth, Michelle Wallerstedt of George Mason, Decoda Simpson of Fairleigh Dickinson, and Denise O'Rourke of VCU.
Delaware also had two competitors in the 10,000 meter run where senior Megan Flynn (Robbinsville/Robbinsville, N.J.) finished in 25th place with a time of 38:06.12 and sophomore Becky Gessler (Notre Dame/Ellicott City, Md.) ran to a time of 38:24.04 to place 29th overall.
Army's Lindsay Gabow won the race with a time of 35:08.73 and was followed by Rider's Nicolette Mateescu, New Hampshire's Samantha Blais and Amber Short, and Bucknell's Catherine Scott.
Delaware will continue action Saturday with the Hens competing in eight events beginning with the 4 x 100 meter relay trials at 2:45 p.m. The Hens will also compete in the 4 x 800 meter relay trials at 5:45 p.m. and in the 4 x 400 meter relay trials at 6 p.m.
Individually, senior Amira Idris will compete in the long jump at 3 p.m., freshman Liz McGroarty will run in the 1,500 meter trials at 3:05 p.m., sophomore Tyler Jackson will run in the 100 meter trials at 3:45 p.m., senior Breanna Nicholson will compete in the 400 meter hurdles trials at 5:05 p.m., and junior Latazah Coleman will run in the 200 meter trials at 5:25 p.m.
Idris finished fifth in the ECAC long jump in 2013.
