Delaware?s 4 x 100 Relay Team Fifth as Blue Hens Close Out Action at ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The University of Delaware's 4 x 100 meter relay team of senior Amira Idris (Hylton/Woodbridge, Va.), sophomore Tyler Jackson (School Without Walls/Washington, D.C.), junior Chelsi Campbell (St. Joseph's Convent/Diego Martin, Trinidad, and junior Latazah Coleman (Appoquinimink/Middletown, Del.) highlighted the action for the Blue Hen women's outdoor track & field squad Sunday afternoon as the foursome earned a fifth place finish during the final day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships.
The Blue Hens also had a relay team and four others individuals in action Sunday as Delaware collected 12 total points to finish in 31st place in the three-day meet held at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium. George Mason won the overall team title with 53 points. Delaware finished in 30th
place last year.
"We had a very nice effort from the squad this weekend and this season," said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane, whose team closed out the 2015 season. "They competed with all the energy they had left after a very long season. I am very proud of our successes this season and look forward to continuance as we strive future success."
The 400 meter relay team, which placed fifth in the preliminaries with a time of 46.29, ran to a time of 46.73 on Sunday for the fifth place showing and All-East notice. VCU won the title with a time of 45.49.
Delaware had two other top 10 finishes as Coleman placed seventh overall with a time of 24.30 and the 4 x 800 meter relay team of junior Shanel Dickens (Cape Henlopen/Milton, Del.), sophomore Betsy Erlanger (Upper St. Clair/Pittsburgh, Pa.), senior Melissa Mazzo (Thomas/Webster, N.Y.), and freshman Liz McGroarty (Garnet Valley/Glen Mills, Pa.) posted a ninth place finish with a time of 9:16.07. That group had set a school record in Saturday's preliminaries with a time of 9:00.95.
Also in action for the Blue Hens on Sunday were Idris in the triple jump and freshman Sarah Hillman (Polytech/Dover, Del.) in the shot put. Idris, who earned All-East honors with a third place finish in the long jump Saturday, recorded an 18th place showing in the triple jump Sunday with a leap of 37-3.25.
Hilllman, who was 11th in the discus Friday, was 16th overall in the shot put with a heave of 39-6 Sunday.
