GAME PREVIEW:
Blue Hens Seek Third Straight Victory; Face Tough Task in Visit to No. 8/8 Richmond Saturday
RICHMOND, Va. -- Now riding a two-game win streak following a 33-17 Colonial Athletic Association victory at Albany last Saturday, the University of Delaware football squad will be looking to continue its inspired, opportunistic play this week when the Blue Hens visit defending champion and No. 8/8 ranked University of Richmond at Robins Stadium.
The Blue Hens (4-5, 2-4 CAA) will be looking to even their season record as they take on a Richmond team that looks to rebound from a tough 47-43 setback to league-leading James Madison this past Saturday. The Spiders (7-2, 4-2 CAA), who entered last week ranked No. 6 in the STATS Inc. Media Top 25 poll, had a five-game win streak snapped.
Delaware forced five turnovers and the defense allowed just 236 total yards - only 15 yards in the second half - in the victory at Albany on Saturday. The Hens also continued to shine in the running game as they piled up 260 yards and scored three times on the ground against the Great Danes.
Richmond, which advanced to the NCAA Tournament semifinals a year ago, feature one of the nation's most potent passing attacks behind the play of QB Kyle Lauletta and WR Brian Brown. The Spiders lead the CAA in passing at 292.9 yards per game and also rank No. 2 in the league in both total offense (436.2) and scoring offense (32.3 points per game).
The teams will meet for the first time since 2013 with Delaware holding an all-time 20-10 advantage in the series.
DELAWARE HEAD COACH:
Dennis Dottin-Carter (Maine '03)...2-1 (.667)...2-1 in CAA (.667)...1-0 in road games...fourth game as interim head coach, taking over for Dave Brock, who was relieved of his duties on Oct. 16...fourth-year on Blue Hen staff, serving as defensive tackles coach each season and adding title of Co-Defensive Coordinator prior to the 2014 season...native of Cambridge, Mass...earned his degree in kinesiology and physical education from the University of Maine following an outstanding playing career that saw him lead the Black Bears to Atlantic 10 titles in 2001 and 2002....first team All-Atlantic 10 selection as a linebacker in 2002 when he also was named All-New England...began his coaching career with former head coach Jack Cosgrove at Maine in 2008 as tights ends coach and also led the fullbacks, running backs, defensive line, and special teams during his five-year tenure.
