Men's Tennis Continues Success With 6-1 Decision at Virginia State

ETTRICK, Va. – The Blue Hens picked up their second straight victory and third in four matches Friday afternoon as Delaware defeated Virginia State, 6-1, at the VSU Tennis Complex.
The Hens (3-12) swept the team doubles point for the first time this season and outscored the Trojans (7-6) by a total of 24-8.
Junior Tyler Flematti (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) and sophomore Colin Wong (Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia/SMK Kota Kemuning) moved to 2-0 on the year with their top-flight doubles win over Sultan Kenes and Jonathan Fuchs, 8-6.
Senior Mike Furr (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) paired with freshman Venkatesh Ramkumar (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) for an 8-2 decision against Marcus Smith and Delwin McCurdy in No. 2 doubles.
Senior Tim Puterio (Kingston, R.I./South Kingstown) and junior Roy Cheng (Shatin, Hong Kong/Sentinel Secondary) rounded out doubles play with an 8-0 rout of Alexander Walker and Keon Halley.
In No. 1 singles, Flematti notched his second straight victory by defeating Smith, 6-0, 6-0.
Alex SweetRamkumar logged his third straight win in the third flight, 7-5, 6-3, over McCurdy.
Freshman Blaise Casselbury (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School) finished the day with his fourth consecutive victory by defeating Fuchs, 6-0, 6-2, in the fourth spot.
“The guys made the best of a difficult day as we had travel issues getting to Virginia State, which cut into warm-up time. They responded very well and took it to them right from the start. We've had a tough stretch with six matches in seven days and will have another short turnaround against a very good Hampton team tomorrow.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Delaware has won three of its last four for the first time since 2012.
· In total, the Blue Hens outscored the Trojans, 63-16, in singles competition.
· Friday was the first-ever meeting between Delaware and Virginia State in men's tennis program history.
· Colin Wong has posted a team-leading nine singles wins on the year.
· Tim Puterio has recorded a team-best eight doubles victories this season.
