PHILADELPHIA -- University of Delaware sophomore Sarah Hillman posted a seventh place finish in the College Women's Discus Throw Championship at the prestigious Penn Relays Friday afternoon at the University of Pennsylvania.
The Dover, Del. (Polytech High School) native tossed the discus a distance of 154-feet, 9-inches (47.19) to post the seventh place showing. Her career best of 162-8 - set earlier this season at VCU - would have been good enough for third place Friday. She threw 43.83 meters on her first toss and 45.03 on her second before fouling on her third attempt. She posted her best throw on her fourth attempt but fouled on her final two tries.
Hillman was the only University of Delaware athlete to compete at the meet this week. This was Hillman's final tune-up before the Blue Hens take part in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at Elon (N.C.) College on May 6-7.
Kellion Knibb of Florida State won the competition as her toss of 192-feet, 1-inch (58.55 meters) set a new Penn Relays and Franklin Field record, surpassing the mark of 57.76 meters by Aretha Hill 20 years ago.
Chioma Onyekwere of Maryland was second with a toss of 173-11 followed by Nichole Chavis of North Carolina State (160-9), Jaevyn Worthan of Troy State (160-4), Corina Cox of Troy State (156-0), and Geneva Greaves of UTech (155-8).
