PRINCETON, N.J. -- The University of Delaware women's outdoor track & field team, led by 2016 Colonial Athletic Association 400 meter dash champion Tyra Reid, will take 14 athletes to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium this weekend.
The meet will begin on Friday morning, May 13, and continue through the finals on the afternoon of Sunday, May 15. Delaware placed 31st in the team standings last season led by a third place finish by Amira Idris in the long jump and a fifth place showing by the 4 x 100 meter relay team.
Reid will be one of Delaware's top favorite to earn All-East honors after her outstanding showing at the CAA championships last week at Elon when she captured the 400 meters title and set a new school record in the process with a time of 53.79.
She will compete in the 400 meter preliminaries on Saturday at 12 noon and will team with Paige Thompson-Charles, Tyler Jackson, and Latazah Coleman in the 4 x 100 meter relay trials earlier that day at 10:30 a.m. She will also team with Jackson, Carolyn Darr, and Michelle Simmons in the 4 x 400 meter relay trials on Saturday at 2:20 p.m.
Sophomore Sarah Hillman will kick things off for the Hens on Friday when she competes in the discus throw beginning at 4:30 p.m. She placed 10th in the event last week at the CAA meet and was 11th at the ECAC meet a year ago. Hillman will also compete in the shot put on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. She placed 16th in the shot at the ECAC meet in 2015.
Also competing for the Hens on Saturday will be Liz McGroarty in the 1,500 meter preliminaries at 10:50 a.m., Jackson in the 100 meter trials at 11:35 a.m., Carly Pettipaw in the 400 meter hurdle prelims at 1:20 p.m., Coleman and Jackson in the 200 meter trials at 1:40 p.m., and McGroarty, Jeanette Bendolph, Emily Paolucci, and Maame Kyeadea-Amponsah in the 4 x 800 meter relay trials at 2 p.m.
McGroarty was sixth in the 1,500 at the CAA meet on Saturday while Coleman placed seventh in the 200 meters at last year's ECAC meet.
Sunday's action will include the finals in the 4 x 100 meter relay, 1,500 meters, 100 meters, 400 meter hurdles, 200 meters, 4 x 800 meter relay, and 4 x 400 meter relay.
In addition, Hillman will compete in the shot put Sunday at 9:30 a.m., Delaware freshman Ashley Bailey will compete in the pole vault at 11 a.m., and freshman Lauren Zodl will take part in the 3,000 meters at 2:25 p.m. Hillman was 16th in the shot put at last year's ECAC meet.
Bailey placed third in the pole vault event at the CAA championships last week and was the highest finisher among freshmen.
