Wendy McFarlane-Smith, who led the Blue Hens to the 2014 team title when she was named CAA Coach of the Year. “This year has yielded great performances from all the teams and any team could win it all. Our goal is to win as many events as possible, finish in the top eight in all events, and ultimately outrun, outthrow, and outjump our opponents and win another championship. Our mental approach will be the key. We have had a few setbacks this season but I believe in Team Delaware and I know we will fight.”
Delaware, which finished fourth in the team standings last year after placing second in 2013 and winning the title in 2014, has seven student-athletes ranked in the top five in the conference heading into the meet. Sophomore Tyra Reid has posted the best time in the 400 meters among all CAA runners this season with a time of 54.77 and freshman Ashley Bailey's season-best pole vault of 3.70 meters also tops all CAA competitors.
In addition, Tyler Jackson is ranked No. 3 in the 200 meters, Jeanette Bendolph ranks No. 3 in the 800 meters, Sarah Hillman is ranked No. 3 in the discus and No. 4 in the shot put, Liz McGroarty is ranked No. 5 in the 1,500 meters, and Alexis Lipnicky is ranked No. 5 in the javelin. The Hens' 4 x 400 meter relay team also ranks third among all CAA competitors.
Delaware posted numerous top five finishes a year ago, including a first place finish by Latazah Coleman in the 100 meters, a runner-up finish by Jade Francis in the hammer and by the 4 x 100 meter relay team, and a third place showing by Hillman in the discus.
