Delaware Athletics Names Bob Lopez Associate AD for Sport Administration and Student Services

NEWARK, Del. -- Bob Lopez has joined the University of Delaware Athletics staff as associate athletic director for sport administration and student services.
Lopez, who spent the last six years working in athletics at the University of Michigan, will work closely with UD
Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student Services and Sport Administration and Senior Woman Administrator Jenn Judy.
In his role at Delaware, Lopez will be responsible for sport administration, team planning, team operations, and student-athlete engagement, as well as working closely with the new BLUE Building Leaders Utilizing Education) initiative, a four-year educational leadership program developed this year that focuses on student health & wellness, personal success, community engagement, diversity and inclusion, and career preparation.
“Bob is a tremendous addition to our team,” said Judy. “He brings deep experience in playing, coaching, operations, and sport administration, and will have great perspective in leading our coaches and student-athletes. I look forward to Bob joining us as an advocate for our coaches and programs in support of a championship student-athlete experience.”
Lopez earned his bachelor's degree in health and physical education in 1977 and his master's degree in educational administration in 1979, both from Illinois State University. He played four seasons at quarterback at the NCAA FCS level for the Redbirds and was captain and the team Most Valuable Player as a senior.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to join the athletics and recreation staff here at the University of Delaware,” said Lopez. “I am looking forward to working with Chrissi Rawak and the staff here at UD and having the chance to make a difference in the lives of so many talented student-athletes. I am most excited about the opportunity to learn and contribute as much as I can.”
During his long career in college athletics and administration, Lopez has worked in the areas of student-athlete services, enrollment and admissions, football operations, sport administration, and coaching.
Lopez spent 12 years coaching football at the college and high school level, including stops as a head coach at Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College (1983-87) and assistant roles at Arizona Western College (1981-83), and Northern Arizona University (1987-91). He also served as athletic director at Fort Scott.
He later went on to work in the admissions field at Northern Arizona, Peru State College, and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire before returning to athletics.
A native of South Holland, Ill., Lopez served as director of football operations at UCLA (2003-08) and San Diego State (2008-11) before moving on to Michigan where he spent the next six years as director of football operations (2011-13), assistant athletic director for football (2013-14), and most recently sport administrator (2014-17) for field hockey, men's and women's cross country and track & field, men's basketball, men's gymnastics, and men's and women's tennis.
Lopez and his wife, Nancy, have two sons, Tyler and Daniel, and three grandchildren.
