ELKTON, Md. – Delaware began conference play Saturday evening with a 5-2 loss to the hands of James Madison at Elkton Indoor Tennis.
Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) led the charge once again as the sophomore notched two wins on the day. In doubles action, Komer paired with classmate Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) for the dominating 6-0 victory over Rachel Nelson and Jona Roka in the second flight.
Komer then picked up her sixth consecutive singles win by defeating Nelson, 6-1, 6-2, in the second slot. With the victory, Komer collected her 10th win of the year.
Freshman Brooke Pilkington (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry) returned to the courts after a bout with the flu for her fourth straight conquest. Pilkington registered her team-leading 15th win of the season with the 6-3, 7-6 (3) victory over Timea Guibe in top-flight action.
With the loss, Delaware falls to 2-4 on the year and 0-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. James Madison improves to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in league action.
“The credit goes to JMU tonight as they've really begun the season strong. In singles play, we did a great job of closing out the sets that we won because JMU forced us to earn them. Every match was competitive and we were close to converting wins. We must continue to believe in ourselves, examine what went well and what can be better in each match and then train to improve these areas.”
