Blue Hens Close Regular Season With 6-1 Victory Over Saint Joseph’s

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Delaware closed out regular season action Thursday afternoon by winning its fourth straight match with the 6-1 victory against Saint Joseph's.
The Hens opened the afternoon by picking up their fifth three-match doubles sweep of the year.
Sophomores Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) and Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) paired for the first win with the 6-1 No. 2 doubles victory.
Junior Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) and graduate student Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) clinched the point with their 7-5 win in top-flight play while freshman Brooke Pilkington (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) and junior Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) posted the 7-6 (1) triumph in the third spot.
Studnicki picked up the first singles win of the day by defeating Katherine Devlin, 6-0, 6-3, in the fifth flight.
Komer followed with her fourth No. 2 singles straight victory, a 6-2, 6-3 decision against Maureen Devlin before Pilkington captured the match for the Hens (12-6) in the No. 1 spot by edging Claire Minnoe, 6-0, 7-5.
In No. 3 singles, LaMachia defeated Isis Gill-Reid, 6-4, 6-3, before Hall wrapped up the day with the 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 decision over Alex Zachem in the fourth slot.

HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Brooke Pilkington is currently tied for second in program single-season history with 24 wins as a freshman. The mark is also good to tie for fourth in single-season history for all players.
· The Blue Hens have four players with at least 16 singles wins on the year.
· Delaware is 112-78 (.589) in singles matches this season and 66-42 (.611) in dual match singles play.
· Denny LaMachia and Amanda Studnicki lead the Hens with 14 doubles wins.
