Trimble, Stellar Pitching Leads Hens to 11-2 Victory Over Elon

Delaware, which won its sixth straight game, scored first on Friday, adding a two-out run in the second when Brian Mayer singled home Calvin Scott. Neither team was able to push across a run in the third or fourth as the Blue Hens enjoyed a 1-0 lead through four innings of play.
In the fifth, the Hens bats came alive, producing four runs. Kevin Mohollen doubled to leadoff the inning and later scored on a Trimble single. Jordan Glover delivered a two-run single and Diaz Nardo later added an RBI double.
Elon added an unearned run in the fifth before Trimble added the Hens sixth run of the evening on a solo home run, his fifth of the season.
In the seventh, the Hens again padded their lead on another long-ball as first baseman Nick Patten hit his eighth homer of the season. The two-run blast gave the Hens a 8-1 lead.
The Blue Hens blew the game open in the eighth inning by scoring three more runs. Trimble's fourth hit of the night brought in one run and Scott added a two-run single to push the lead to 11-1.
Burk FitzPatrick contributed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief for the Hens while Colman Vila continued to pitch well, throwing a scoreless eighth. In the ninth, Kyle Hinton allowed a solo home run before striking out the final two batters.
The Blue Hens and Phoenix will conclude the series Saturday afternoon when the teams meet for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
HEN SCRATCHINGS:
• Delaware produced its fourth consecutive game with 10 or more runs. The Hens have eclipsed that mark for the 14th time. Delaware improves to 13-1 in those games.
• The Hens are batting a CAA best .326 this season. The squad's 4.56 ERA also leads the CAA.
• UD improved to 6-1 when giving up two runs or fewer.
• The Hens have won a season-best six games in a row. Delaware won six games in a row from March 6-12. UD has also won four straight CAA games.
• The Hens are 9-1 when hitting at least two home runs.
• Trimble increased his batting average to .415 on the season. He produced his 20th multiple hit game of the season, and has multiple RBI in 10 games this season.
• Nardo reached base for the 29th consecutive game.
