Blue Hens Baseball Awards End of Season Honors

NEWARK, Del. -- Following Saturday afternoon's game with the College of Charleston, the University of Delaware baseball squad handed out its end of season awards.
Andrew AmaroSenior Doug Trimble earned the Delaware Alumni Association Pape Lukk Team Most Valuable Player Award. Trimble is hitting .343 with 15 doubles, six home runs, and 43 RBI.
First baseman Nick Patten earned the Defensive Player of the Year award after commiting just six errors in 51 games played this season.
The Offensive Player of the Year Award was shared by Jeremy Ake and Trimble. Ake is leading the Blue Hens in batting average this season and has compiled the third highest average (.354) and on-base percentage (.431) in the CAA. The senior had two home runs, 11 doubles, and 37 RBI.
UD honored pitcher Ron Marinaccio with the Pitcher of the Year award. Marinaccio compiled a team- leading 2.19 ERA in 49.1 innings pitched, struck out 60 batters, and walked just 18. Since moving to the starting srotation to replace the injured Brandon Walter, Marinaccio produced an ERA of 1.21 in six starts.
The final award of the night was the UD Perry Burkett Triple Effort Award. This award was given to junior Calvin Scott and graduate student Brian Mayer.
Scott is batting .350 with 12 doubles, a pair of triples, three home runs, and 39 RBI, and ranks fourth in the CAA in batting average.
Mayer is batting .328 on the year with 10 home runs, 35 RBI, and the team lead in slugging percentage.
The Blue Hens return to action Wednesday at 11 a.m. against College of Charleston in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament first round hosted by UNCW in Wilmington, N.C.
