Welcome to the fifth installment of This is How I Train.
Every Tuesday and Thursday during the preseason, we will feature a member of the Blue Hen football team and learn a little more about what motivates them to excel.
Today we meet Troy Reeder, the hard-hitting inside linebacker who is one of three family members, including father, Dan, and younger brother, Colby, to suit up for the Blue Hens.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation: "I did a lot of training. I didn't have a big class load so once classes were done for the day, I could focus on my nutrition, training, do a double session if I wanted to, spend time with my teammates. There are not a lot of other obligations at that time of the year and not a lot of people on campus, so it was just mostly us guys hanging out."
Strength in Numbers: "Strength training is so important for a number of reasons. To play the game of football, you have to some type of physical standing. Not just strength, but explosiveness and speed are also important. I really like the camaraderie in the weight room. It's a great time to bring guys together. You don't have to be the best lifter to be the hype guy in the weight room. You see so many personalities come out and you can compete against each other and with each other. That is why I like working out with the team rather than on my own. Working on with my teammates brings out the best in me." (Note: Those bests are pretty impressive, including 555 lbs. in the squat and 365 lbs. in the clean.)
Future Financial Wizard: "I've done all of my general classes and I now starting to get into the heart of my core classes for my major. I took a 400 level finance class for the first time this summer. I'm fortunate that I am in a major (finance) that I have a lot of interest in and get the chance to expand my knowledge in the financial field. I really believe that if you learn how to work with money you are very valuable to a lot of people. I'm not sure exactly what I want to get into but I'm most interested right now in commercial real estate. But I am open to anything and will see where things take me."
Oh Brother: "It's been cool having (younger brother) Colby here. For a long time we have always missed each other by a year. We played a little together in high school but there is a big difference in high school between a sophomore and senior. When you are in college, it feels like you are more peers playing with each other. It's cool seeing him line up a spot or two down from me, making plays, and being able to celebrate with him."
Born to be a Blue Hen: "Being from Delaware and how much history I know about Delaware football has been a great thing. It does mean a lot to me because growing up I have seen the great players who have come through here. With my Dad (Dan Reeder) being an alum, having been around it, I've met some of the guys personally. I grew up being a big fan and that is a rarity for most people on this team. It's a unique perspective."
A Day at the Beach: "I really like going down to the beach, going out on a boat, being on the water. That is probably my favorite thing to do in terms of down time. You get so busy, it's hard to pick up a hobby. But just going to the beach (Lewes, Del. and Cape Henlopen State Park are his favorite places) is something I really enjoy."
