Delaware Holds Alumni Golf Outing, Honors Four

NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware baseball team welcomed back over 100 former players last weekend for the annual alumni golf outing. Over 100 players made the trek back to Delaware. The event was held by Back Creek Golf Club in Middletown, Delaware.Â
Four players - MIke McIlvaine, Vince Vukovich, Chad Kuhl and DJ Long - were honored for their service to the Delaware program.Â
Kuhl earned second team All-CAA honors in 2013 after posting a 10-2 record and ranking third among Blue Hen starters with a 3.75 earned run average in 15 starts. He also led the team with 105.2 innings pitched and struck out 76 batters. Kuhl was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the ninth round of the MLB draft and was called up to the big league club in 2016, where he still remains a member of the team. He has 18 major league wins to his name and has stuck out 276 batters in his major league career.Â
Long is the doubles leader at Delaware with 73 and is a member of the 200 hit club with the Blue Hens. Long was a CBM Freshman All-American in 2010 and was Third-team All-CAAÂ in 2013 and was a member of the CAA All-Tournament team in 2012.Â
McIlvaine finished his senior season in 1985 with a 2.88 ERA in 14 appearances with 11 starts. McIlvaine went 8-3 that season with 81.3 inning pitched. He fanned 55 during the year and also recorded one save.Â
Vukovich started 51 games for the Blue Hens in 2001 and hit .358. Vukovich racked up 63 hits with three doubles, four triples and three home runs. Vukovich and the Blue Hens would make the NCAA Regional that year after winning the America East Tournament. UD would take down the host team Ohio State in 10 innings in that regional. The Blue Hens finished with a 45-15 record. Vukovich was drafted in the 20th round of the 2001 MLB Amateur Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies and continued his baseball career for three years in the Phillies organization.Â
The winners of the golf scramble were Dave Harden, Joey Class, Matt Harden and Steve Degnan while Bob Gildea, Paul Gildea, James Depitrantonio and Greg DeMichael finished second.Â
