HEN SCRATCHINGS 🐔
TOOK THE CROWN: Delaware will look to build on a 34-23 2017 campaign that saw the Hens capture the first Colonial Athletic Association title in school history. Delaware returns five starters from last seasons squad including All-CAA Preseason selections Kevin Mohollen, Diaz Nardo, Nick Patten and Calvin Scott.
LED THE WAY IN THE CAA: A season ago the Blue Hens led the CAA in both hitting (.310) and ERA (4.36). The Blue Hens were the first school since James Madison (2002) to lead the conference in both batting average and ERA.
WELL REPRESENTED: The Blue Hens were selected second in the CAA Preseason poll, garnering three first-place votes. Delaware's four All-CAA honorees were tied for the most in the conference.
NEW FACES ABOUND: The Blue Hens welcome 12 new faces to Newark this season including projected Sunday starter Billy Sullivan IV (St. Mark's high school), projected second baseman Erik Bowren (Mercer County CC) and projected shortstop Vinny Vaccone (Mercer County CC).
BEHIND ENEMY LINES: Charleston Southern went 22-29 a season ago, finishing ninth in the Big South Conference. The Buccaneers return 25 members from last season including All-Big South honorees Daniel Johnson, Aaron Miller, Jason Miller and Cody Smith. Charleston Southern was projected eighth in the Preseason Big South poll for new head coach Adam Ward.
