HEN SCRATCHINGS 🐔
COMEBACK KIDS: Delaware is coming off its most dramatic victory over the season this past Tuesday. The Hens who trailed 6-0 heading to the bottom half of the fourth, struck for seven unanswered runs, including five in the fourth inning. The Hens tied the game at six in the eighth inning when Kevin Mohollen drove home Austin Niggebrugge on a groundout. UD completed the comeback when Calvin Scott launched a game-winning solo home run to right field.
ONE RUN FUN: The Blue Hens have won three consecutive games by one run for the first in almost five years. Delaware last won three straight one-run contests in March (23-24) of 2013. This past weekend, UD defeated Monmouth University 2-1 and 7-6. Tuesday afternoon, Delaware won its third consecutive one-run game, defeating Maryland 7-6.
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME: After going 22-4 at home a season ago, Delaware is currently 6-1 this season at home. The Hens have scored at least five runs in five out of seven home contests and are batting .291 in eight games at Bob Hannah Stadium. Eight different Blue Hens are batting better than .300 at home this season, including catcher Zach Miller (.444, 4 RBI) and Kevin Mohollen (.423, 4 doubles, 8 RBI and 9 runs).
BEHIND ENEMY LINES: Bryant enters the weekend with a record of 3-9 so far this season, with six of their nine losses coming against nationally-ranked Arizona and Auburn. The Bulldogs so far this season have earned nine Northeaster Conference weekly accolades including James Ciliento winning NEC Co-Player of the Week this week, and Shane Kelly winning NEC Rookie of the Week Monday. Bulldogs infielder Tyler Panno has smashed four home runs this season and is batting .340 this season. The struggle this season has been on the mound for the Bulldogs who have compiled an ERA of 7.36 through the season's first 12 games.
