2018 Summer Figure Skating Training Program June 25-July 27, 2018

The University of Delaware High Performance Figure Skating Center offers a comprehensive summer training program that incorporates off-ice strength and conditioning along with intensive on-ice training. Coaching is available in Freestyle, Moves in the Field, Pairs, Dance, Choreography and Stroking from our large staff of highly qualified coaches. The daily schedule consists of Freestyle, Pairs and Dance sessions. All Freestyle sessions are divided into three levels: Low (No Test – Pre-Juvenile), Medium (Juvenile – Intermediate), and High (Novice – Senior), accompanied by off-ice dance and strength training.

Elite sessions are offered to skaters at the National level who have been selected to compete Internationally for the current competitive season.

Stroking classes are offered Monday – Thursday; pre-register for the class by the week or purchase a walk-on ticket daily.

*Sessions are based on USFSA Highest Freestyle level passed; not Moves in the Field.

Stroking

– Stroking class will be available Monday – Thursday – Stroking sessions will cost $13 per session or if you register for weekly summer ice package cost is $40.00 per week. – Advanced registration is suggested because class size may be restricted.

Lessons

A frequently asked question is “Are lessons included with registration?” No, private lessons are arranged by contacting one or more of the coaches at the numbers provided on the coaches list. Lessons should be scheduled during the ice sessions that you register for; your coach needs to have availability during those sessions. Coaches are paid directly; not at the the Ice Arena office.

Summer Training Center Housing Program -Deadline is May 28, 2018 to request housing. The skater must be at least 8 years old by January 1, 2018 to be eligible for housing.

To download summer program brochure click here. All housing will take place in James Smith Hall (top floor 5th floor) and all rooms are doubles, no triple rooms.

The University offers resident hall living for those athletes attending the High Performance Figure Skating Center, while the campus provides a comfortable and secure environment for skaters of all ages. Trained residence hall staff members are assigned specifically to the skating program and to oversee skaters' daily needs. Counselors are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The residence hall for skaters features air-conditioned rooms, controlled access entrance and a T.V. lounge exclusively for skaters' use. Skaters have $100 in UD Points for meals. The points can be used at the arena, dining hall, or any student center on campus. This amount is more than enough for three meals plus snacks for one week. A University vehicle and counselors are assigned to provide local transportation to and from training facilities.

Resident skaters will have the opportunity to bond with other skaters and staff though a variety of summer activities. Skaters will have access to the basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts as well as planned activities held on the athletic turf adjacent to the dorms. After completing training for the day, resident skaters can relax in the dorms and create fun memories with activities such as movie nights, indoor camp night, talent shows, arts and crafts, and outdoor games. Activities are done as a group and skaters are always back at the dorms by 8:00 p.m. Saturday excursions are planned for skaters staying for multiple weeks who wish to stay on campus over the weekend. Permission forms are required as is spending money to cover the activity and food for the day. Examples of trips include going to the beach, amusement parks, or local attractions. Further information will be provided upon registration. Housing and meal fees are on the application form.

Outdoor Pool! For $5 a day, skaters have access to the UD Outdoor Pool, located directly behind the Gold Arena. THIS OPTION IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR SKATERS STAYING IN UNIVERSITY HOUSING.
