Blue Hens Drop 42-7 Decision At Elon

ELON, N.C. – The 15th-ranked University of Delaware football team struggled to find a rhythm Saturday afternoon at Rhodes Stadium, falling to Elon by a 42-7 final.
After falling behind 7-0 midway through the first quarter, the Blue Hens took over on offense and redshirt sophomore quarterback Nolan Henderson was targeted and would be forced to miss the remainder of the afternoon with an injury.
The Blue Hens came into the game as the least penalized team in the country, but played uncharacteristically with seven penalties on the afternoon.
Redshirt sophomore Thyrick Pitts was effective on the outside with four grabs for 69 yards and redshirt senior Pat Kehoe was 14-of-24 with 175 yards with a touchdown in relief.
Delaware put together a strong drive in the fourth quarter, when Kehoe connected with a wide-open sophomore Bryce De Maille for a 38-yard touchdown to cap-off a seven play, 83-yard drive.
What They Said
"Obviously I'm disappointed in our effort today. Give credit to Elon, they played a tremendous game. I thought our defense and special teams really kept us in the game there in the first half, but Elon just completely outplayed us in the second half. I'm disappointed in the way we didn't respond to the adversity in the first half. We did some things we hadn't done recently with the turnovers and the penalities. We certainly have our work cut out for us moving into the heart of conference play." – Head Coach Danny Rocco
Up Next
The Blue Hens return home for the first time in a month next week when they host the Wildcats of New Hampshire at Delaware Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
