"We're certainly disappointed in the way our team performed today," head coach Danny Rocco said. "We all expected to come up here and play a more competitive game, a more complete game. That starts with me and I take ownership of that.
Redshirt senior QB Pat Kehoe concluded his Blue Hens gear with a 29-for-49 performance, tossing for 336 yards and 2 TDs, while rushing for 31 yards as well. Kehoe finishes as one of just 15 players in program history to toss for 3,000+ yards and at least 29 career TDs.
Redshirt freshman Will Knight had 128 total yards and two TDs, while junior Gene Coleman had a career day with eight catches for 104 yards and a TD. Redshirt sophomore Thyrick Pitts wrapped up a strong second year with six catches for 79 yards and a TD.
Defensively, redshirt freshman Noah Plack led the way with seven tackles, while sophomore Johnny Buchanan had six tackles. Sophomore Kedrick Whitehead had four tackles on the day to reach 100+ tackles, making him just the 10th sophomore in program history to reach 100 or more tackles in a single-season.
"On the defensive side, we really just had our finger in the dyke the entire game. They came out running the ball, inside and outside, then they got hot throwing the ball, they just were able to do whatever they want and we weren't able to match up and win our battles," Rocco said.
Villanova scored quickly on its first two drives, but Knight and the Blue Hens would try to answer as he burst through a huge hole and scampered for 68 yards and a TD to make it a 14-7 game.
The Wildcats wouldn't slow down, scoring two more times to push the game to 27-7 before Knight would once again punch it in to make it 27-14.
A 42-yard field goal from senior Jake Roth would send Delaware into the break with a 34-17 deficit.
Villanova would put it out of reach in the second half with back-to-back TD drives in the latter half of the third quarter.
Two TD drives by the Blue Hens offense in the fourth quarter weren't enough as the Wildcats secured the victory.
