Legg Joins Football Staff

NEWARK, Del. – A veteran coach with plenty of knowledge of the CAA is set to join the University of Delaware football staff with the addition of Dave Legg to the defensive side of the ball.
Legg, who spent the past 12 seasons at the University of Richmond, including five with current Blue Hen head coach Danny Rocco, will be a part of Delaware's defensive coaching staff.
"We're excited about the addition of Dave Legg to our staff. Dave has spent the past 12 seasons at Richmond where he has been a part of a number of very successful seasons, including a National Championship in 2008. Coach Legg was on my Richmond staff and worked with our special teams and defensive backs. This reunites him with Coach Cosh and our defensive staff, who worked together while at Richmond. He has owned a number of responsibilities over the years and we will look to utilize those experiences for our student-athletes and our program," Rocco said.
Legg began his coaching career in 1987 as defensive line and inside linebackers coach at Hampden-Sydney College. He then joined the College of William and Mary staff in 1991, as outside linebackers coach. After then serving six seasons with defensive backs at Bucknell University, Legg returned to his alma mater in 2001. He joined retired head coach Matt Kelchner in starting Christopher Newport's program, and served as Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator for the following six seasons.
Among his coaching highlights have been helping to lead William and Mary to back-to-back successes in the 1992 Epson Ivy Bowl and 1993 Yankee Conference Championship, and Bucknell to the 1996 Patriot League Championship. Additionally, Legg helped coach Christopher Newport to five conference championships within six years.
Legg also helped secure a handful of records, including setting a new Patriot League Record for interceptions (21) in 2000 at Bucknell and becoming the first team in NCAA history to win the conference and advance to the NCAA playoffs in an inaugural season at CNU.
During his 12-year stay at Richmond, Legg helped coach the team to four Colonial Athletic Association championships, throughout which he also coached seven All American Players. Under Legg's coaching, Richmond led the country three different times in interceptions, including a school-record 29 in 2008 during the Spiders run to their first-ever National Championship.
