Courtney Excels at Ireland’s National Indoor Senior Championship

NEWARK, Del. – Blue Hens sophomore Caragh Courtney used part of her winter break to shine in her home country as part of the 2020 Shared Access National Indoor Senior Championships.
Courtney finished the tournament, which was played Dec. 29 to Jan. 5 at the David Lloyd Riverview in Dublin, Ireland, with a 3-1 singles record.
Ranked fourth overall entering play, Courtney's lone loss (6-4, 6-4) came to No. 3 Karola Bejenaru in the final's matchup.
"If you can use the confidence gained from this week, this is going to be a very fun spring for the Blue Hens," exclaimed Delaware head coach Kelly Anderson. "Caragh is an extremely hard worker and I'm really pleased that her results are reflecting her effort shown."
Courtney opened the tournament with a first-round bye before topping Breda Brennan, 6-2, 6-2, in the second round. In the quarterfinals, Courtney defeated Kate Gardiner, 6-3, 6-2, before a come-from-behind victory over Sol O Lideadha, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, in the semifinals.
