Delaware Announces 2020-21 Women's Basketball Non-Conference Schedule
11/19/2020 10:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
NEWARK, Del. – Delaware women's basketball will play five non-conference games to open the 2020-21 season, the Blue Hens announced Thursday morning. The non-conference slate adds to the previously announced 18-game Colonial Athletic Association schedule that starts Jan. 2.
The Blue Hens open the 2020-21 by hosting Salem University (W.V.) on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. Delaware hits the road the following week, playing at in-state rival Delaware State on Wednesday, Dec. 2 and at Pittsburgh on Sunday, Dec. 6. The game against the Panthers is set for a 6 p.m. tipoff and will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
Delaware will host Georgetown at the Bob Carpenter Center on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. before closing the non-conference portion of the schedule at George Washington on Sunday, Dec. 20 at noon.
The CAA schedule once again includes 18 games, but the format has been adjusted to limit travel and help ensure the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches and staff.
In lieu of a traditional home-and-home round robin schedule, teams will play against the same opponent at the same site on consecutive days, primarily Saturdays and Sundays. The only exception will come when teams face their designated travel partner, which is Drexel University for the Blue Hens. On those weekends, each team will play once at home and once on the road, with flexibility given to create a day off between contests.
Delaware kicks off its CAA slate on Saturday, January 2 and Sunday, January 3 with back-to-back contests at the College of Charleston. The Blue Hens wrap conference play at home by hosting Towson on Saturday, February 27 and Sunday, February 28.
Junior guard Jasmine Dickey was named to the Preseason All-CAA First Team and the Blue Hens were picked to finish sixth in a poll of the league's head coaches.
Fan Attendance
As part of Delaware athletics' plan for a phased-in approach to fan attendance, spectators will not be permitted into the Bob Carpenter Center for the game on Nov. 25. Decisions on fan attendance at future home games are subject to state and university guidelines and will be released at a later date.
