Blue Hens’ Bookworm Program A Huge Success

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware basketball programs and Delaware Education Savings Plan teamed up with local elementary schools to help encourage the importance of reading among their students (K-5th).
Participating classrooms received program bookmarks, and students were encouraged to read for a minimum of twenty (20) minutes a day, and record the books they read on their bookmark. Students who finished the program received two complimentary tickets to a Delaware Basketball Game.
Over 200 classrooms and 5,000 local students signed up to complete the program and over half of them completed the reading challenge and were invited to attend a Delaware Basketball game to celebrate their accomplishments.
