Loynd Named Top-10 Freshman Hitter by D1 Baseball

The Doylestown, Pennsylvania native hit .342
NEWARK, Del. – With the 2020 college baseball season coming to an abrupt end, D1 Baseball has announced the top 50 freshman hitters across the country with Joey Loynd ranking No. 7, according to analytics.Â
Loynd is the top-ranked freshman in the CAA and had the highest plate discipline rating according to the 17-year-old site. He hit .342 in 13 games while slugging .605 to lead the team. In what became the season finale, Loynd was 3-for-3 with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs.Â
The Blue Hens have had a string of top freshman in the nation in the past three seasons. Loynd adds to the list of freshman accolades joining Joseph Carpenter and Billy Sullivan IV who had back-to-back CAA Rookie of the Year honors. Carpenter was also a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American last year.Â
Peyton Graham of Oklahoma was ranked No. 1 in the nation at 88.7 with Loynd scoring less than two points behind at 86.8.Â
