Blue Hen Family,
Needless to say, these have been some of the most challenging weeks of my professional career.Â
Cancelling our spring sports seasons, having our spring football practices come to an end, and not being able to watch our coaches work day in and day out with their teams has been incredibly difficult.Â
It seems trite for me to say that, while recognizing what our country and world is going through. I also recognize that all of you, our Blue Hen family, have had to manage through this challenging time as well.Â
As I have been at home, working to ensure that our student-athletes, coaches, and staff are safe, I've also had time for reflection, which has taken me to a place of gratitude and appreciation.
I am grateful for an incredible group of student-athletes who represent our great University with pride, and all of our seniors who will go on to do amazing things - but will also promise to come back because Newark will always be their home!
I am grateful for a selfless group of coaches and staff members who day in and day out live our core values of Excellence, Integrity, Inclusivity and ProUD.
I am grateful to President Assanis and our University leadership for their thoughtful and intentional approach to every decision that we made and will continue to make.Â
I am grateful for a Blue Hen community like no other, who are passionate and fiercely loyal.
While the work that we will do over the coming days will be different, the commitment to our Blue Hen family does not change. We will continue to stay engaged and support each other during this unprecedented time.
Just like the definition of a Blue Hen reads:
One who leads; one with aspirations of championship caliber. To be strong, focused and dedicated; to be passionate and inspiring; to be part of a family.
We will be strong, focused and dedicated as one Blue Hen family!
Be Well and Go Hens,Â
