NEWARK, Del. - Competition is something that is nothing new to the over 600-plus student-athletes at the University of Delaware.
Led by the UD Student Voting and Civic Engagement Task Force, the Blue Hens, along with the entire University of Delaware community, will be part of a campus-wide competition geared toward having students register to vote through the online platform called TurboVote.
TurboVote allows students to register to vote, obtain absentee ballots and sign-up for election day text / email reminders. Given our increasingly virtual world, tools like these are increasingly important.
The UD competition will allow Athletic teams and other student groups to make their own groups to compete and see who can sign-up the most people for TurboVote using their unique URL during a one week span between September 15 and September 22.
More information on the competition can be found here: https://bit.ly/30RCJXX.
"By exercising our right to vote and encouraging our peers to do the same, we all have the ability to make an impact in this country," senior football student-athlete DeJoun Lee said. "Voter registration and educating ourselves and peers on the voting process is an integral part of making sure our voices are heard."
In addition, the athletic department is working to adjust schedules on Nov. 3 to provide student-athletes, staff and coaches every opportunity to take an active role in the voting process.
