RICHMOND, Va. – After Delaware women's basketball swept two Colonial Athletic Association series this past week, the Blue Hens also swept the CAA's weekly awards. The conference announced Monday that junior guard Jasmine Dickey is the CAA Player of the Week and freshman guard Tyi Skinner is the CAA Rookie of the Week.
Dickey averaged 20.0 points and 8.0 rebounds across four games as Delaware beat Northeastern and William & Mary twice each. Dickey leads the team, is second in the conference, and ranks 13th in Division I with 23.1 points per game this season. She has scored in double figures in every game this year, including six 20-point performances and two double-doubles. In Sunday's 77-64 win over the Tribe, Dickey knocked down 16 free throws, a career high and one shy of the program record, on her way to 28 points.
Skinner posted 7.5 points and 2.5 assists per game in the same stretch, highlighted by a team-high 16 points in Monday's 86-59 win at Northeastern. In that dominant victory over the Huskies, she also recorded a career-high four assists, three rebounds and two steals. The guard from Washington, D.C., notched her fourth double-digit scoring performance in Saturday's 79-55 win over the William & Mary, pouring in 11 points and dishing three assists.
At 7-1, Delaware is off to its best eight-game start to a season since 2011-12. The Blue Hens sit alone atop the CAA standings at 4-0. This is Dickey's second Player of the Week nod this season (she also won on Dec. 14) and third overall for the Blue Hens (Paris McBride on Dec. 7), the only CAA team with multiple Player of the Week awards this season.
The Blue Hens are back in action this weekend with a two-game set at Hofstra on Jan. 16 and 17, both with 2 p.m. tip-offs.
