NIL Policy
NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware introduced a policy on Wednesday allowing its student-athletes the opportunity to benefit from their name, image and likeness (NIL). The policy comes after the NCAA's board of directors announced this summer to officially suspend the organization's rules prohibiting athletes from selling the rights to their name, image and likeness.
Â
Delaware is committed to supporting student-athletes and their pursuit of earning compensation for name, image and likeness activities in accordance with any applicable NCAA and Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rules and state or federal law without compromising the mission of the athletics department - to ensure our Blue Hens are game-changers who lead with integrity to develop inclusive environments and championship experiences. Prior to Delaware creating a policy, the athletics department had been using the CAA's NIL policy.Â
Â
The NIL policy, which goes into effect immediately, is complemented by the athletic department's Building Leaders Utilizing Education (BLUE) program. BLUE is a four-year educational curriculum that supports Delaware student-athletes' transition into their collegiate experience through their transition out of sport and after graduation. The program focuses on leadership development, life skills, and career readiness.
