Blue Hens Fall at Richmond

The Spiders (5-5, 3-4 CAA) got off to a quick start, scoring touchdowns on each of their first two possessions to take a 14-0 lead.
Gwynn took to the air on Delaware's second drive of the game, completing passes to Pitts (18 yards), Bryce De Maille (9) and James Collins (20). His fourth pass of the possession was a 19-yard strike to Pitts in the end zone to cut the deficit in half.
After Richmond kicked a 47-yard field goal to extend its lead to 17-7, Gwynn again led a strong drive down the field. On the ninth play of the possession that deep completions to Collins and Pitts, Gwynn snuck it over the goal line himself from the 1-yard line. Ryan Coe's PAT made it a 17-14 game.
The Spiders answered with another touchdown to take a 24-14 lead into halftime.
The Blue Hens opened the second half strong, using a 10-play drive to score on another one-yard sneak by Gwynn and make it a three-point game at 24-21. Pitts had two more receptions of 29 and 19 yards to help move the ball down the field.
On Delaware's next possession, Richmond intercepted a pass to gain possession on the 7-yard line before scoring three plays later. The Spiders then recovered a fumbled strip sack and returned it for another score to make it 37-21.
Gwynn completed four-straight passes on the next drive, with the final one going to Gene Coleman II for a 10-yard touchdown. A failed 2-point conversion brought it to a 10-point deficit at 37-27.
Richmond would score two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to provide the final score.
Gwynn finished with personal bests of 25 completions for 331 yards and two passing touchdowns. His two rushing scores were the first ones of his career. Pitts also surpassed his previous career highs, finishing with 11 catches for 169 yards.
Noah Plack also set a career high, leading the Delaware defense with 14 tackles, while Johnny Buchanan finished with nine.
The Blue Hens will return home to Delaware Stadium for the regular-season finale on Saturday, November 20 against Villanova. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and tickets to the game can be purchased HERE. Prior to the game, the Blue Hens will recognize the program's seniors.
