Strien Named to NFHCA Division I Senior Team

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Fifth-year senior Femke Strien was selected to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) 2021 Division I Senior Team, announced by the NFHCA Monday afternoon.
"A very deserving recognition by our National Field Hockey Coaches Association of Femke Strien," said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "She has grown so much during her Blue Hen time as a student, athlete and person and our field hockey program benefited from her overall growth on and off the field. Her field hockey accomplishments and performance speak for themselves, you just have to look at the championship teams she has contributed to and her individual honors and awards."
Strien, a native of IJsselstein, The Netherlands, earned her third career All-CAA First Team honor this season. Starting in all 22 games, Strien ranked second on the team with 23 points (6g, 11a) and is tied 19th nationally in assists per game (0.55). Strien was a member of the 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021 CAA Tournament Championship teams and a member of the 2017 and 2019 CAA Regular Season Championship teams. She made it to the first round of the NCAA tournament four out of her five seasons with the Blue Hens.
"It has been a joy to welcome her four and a half years ago, to coach and support her during her time at the University of Delaware, and to witness her transition through college from a teenager to a young, talented and confident woman. She could have decided not to return for her ninth semester but believed she had some unfinished business left."
A four-time member of the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, Strien is also a two-time member of the NFHCA Division I Mid-Atlantic Region First Team. She earned 2020 NFHCA Division I All-American Second Team accolades and NFHCA Division I All-American First Team honors in 2019.
"Although we fell short by one game to reach the NCAA Elite Eight, one of Femke's and our team goals this season; Femke utilized this past semester to grow into the leader she could be for herself and all her teammates. We are grateful for all Femke has done for Delaware Field Hockey and are looking forward to her life journey as a University of Delaware alumni and ambassador."
The midfielder was named CAA Offensive Player of the Year in 2019 and was twice named to the CAA All-Tournament team (2019 and 2020). She earned CAA Player of the Week honors six times in her career and earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors twice her freshman season.Â
Strien was one of 38 student-athletes named to the Senior Team. The selected student-athletes were nominated by their coaches and chosen to the team based on their career accomplishments.Â
Selections were announced during a live video presentation Monday afternoon. Traditionally, the NFHCA hosts a Senior Game with a trophy presentation, but the game was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
