Four Blue Hens Earn NFHCA All-Region Accolades

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Delaware field hockey team had four student-athletes earn National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region honors, as announced by the organization on Monday.
"Congratulations to Femke, Jules, Ashlyn and Kiki as their performance and contributions to our team triggered their selection to the Mid-Atlantic Region Teams for the 2021 season," said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "These four represent the great players group and team culture we have within Delaware Field Hockey. We can be all proud of their growth, leadership and performance. Their contributions allowed us to compete and win the 2021 CAA Tournament Championship, advance in the NCAA Tournament, and almost knock off No. 1 Rutgers during a hard-fought battle losing just, 2-1."
Sophomore Julia Duffhuis earned her second career NFHCA Division I Mid-Atlantic Region First Team honor. The Bergeijk, The Netherlands native was tabbed CAA Defensive Player of the Year, earned a spot on the All-CAA First Team and was named CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Duffhuis led the Blue Hens with 29 points on 13 goals and three assists.Â
Fifth-year senior Femke Strien earned her third Mid-Atlantic Region First Team nod. She was named to the 2021 NFHCA Division I Senior Team, earned 2020 NFHCA Division I All-American Second Team accolades and NFHCA Division I All-American First Team honors in 2019. Strien is also a four-time member of the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. She ranked second on the team with 23 points on six goals and 11 assists.Â
Junior Ashlyn Carr was named to the Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team. This season she earned her second career All-CAA First Team honor and was named to the CAA All-Tournament Team. The Delmar, Del. native ranked fourth on the team with 19 points on four goals and 11 assists.Â
Sophomore Kiki Oudshoorn joins Carr on the Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team, the first selection of her career. This season she earned All-CAA Second Team honors and a spot on the CAA All-Tournament Team. Oudshoorn was second on the team with nine goals and fourth with 22 points. She scored two goals in the CAA title game against James Madison and scored one goal in the NCAA Opening Round game against Fairfield.Â
"We are going to miss Femke as every year throughout her Blue Hen experience she has upped her performance and leadership. We are excited to welcome back Jules, Ashlyn and Kiki next season and know they will continue to improve as players, teammates and leaders to themselves and others."
Division I teams are separated into five regions: Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Northeast, South and West — each region honors up to 16 student-athletes on a first team and up to 16 student-athletes on a second team.
The NFHCA Division I All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the NFHCA over the next several weeks. Next to be announced are the NFHCA Regional Players of the Year on November 29, they will be followed by the NFHCA All-American teams on December 14 and the NFHCA National Player of the Year on December 16.
