NEWARK, DEL. – University of Delaware Director of Tennis Pablo Montana has announced the upcoming spring schedule for the women's tennis team. The Blue Hens are coming off a successful fall campaign and will compete in 21 dual matches in preparation for the 2022 CAA Championships.
"I am so excited for this year's schedule and the tough competition we will face," Montana said. "We have added some new opponents this year and it will be a good challenge for us to compete against some of the best teams in our region and in the country."
The spring slate will kick off on January 28 with a quick trip down to Washington, D.C. to take on George Washington. Delaware will return home for contests in Wilmington against Villanova (Feb. 11) and Navy (Feb. 13) before traveling north for a matchup with Big Ten-foe Rutgers (Feb. 18).
The Blue Hens return home on February 20 to host Long Island University in Elkton, Maryland before hitting the road for three-straight matches against VCU (Feb. 26), Duquesne (March 5) and West Virginia (March 6).
Following the long road swing, Delaware will play four of its next five matches on its home courts starting when Hofstra (March 11) and Georgetown (March 13) visit for contests played in Wilmington. The Blue Hens will travel to Temple (March 17) before hosting a doubleheader on March 20, playing St. Francis (Pa.) at 11 a.m. and then Goldey-Beacom at 3 p.m.
The month of March closes with three matches in the Palmetto State. The Blue & Gold will play at South Carolina State (March 27), College of Charleston (March 29) and Charleston Southern (March 31) in a five-day span.
Delaware will play consecutive matches against CAA opponents when the squad travels to Towson (April 7) before staying in Maryland for a neutral contest against William & Mary (April 9) at Towson. The Blue Hens will then return to Newark for four-consecutive home contests. NJIT (April 10) kicks off the homestand before Morgan State (April 12), Drexel (April 15) and Delaware State (April 23) close out the regular season.
The 2022 CAA Championships will be hosted by Elon University in North Carolina. The Blue Hens earned the fifth seed at last spring's championships before falling in a tight quarterfinal matchup against Charleston.
