Blue Hens Defeat Richmond, Fall to VCU In Double Header

RICHMOND, Va. – The Blue Hens men's tennis team headed to Richmond, Virginia on Saturday to face the Richmond Spiders and VCU Rams.

The Blue Hens started off the day against the Richmond Spiders and came out victorious in a nail-biting 4-3 win.

"We definitely showed some great heart against Richmond today. Pierre and Lucho (Luis Molina) were down 2-5 in their doubles match before coming back and clinching the point for us," said head coach Pablo Montana. "In singles, it was a battle up and down the lineup and finally it came down to the final point on court five. Gui (Guilherme Valdoleiros) clinched the match for us with another come-from-behind victory."

Later in the day, the Blue Hens faced the VCU Rams and were defeated 4-0.

"We had our chances in doubles, but we couldn't finish. Kudos to VCU for playing a little more solid than we did in the end," said head coach Montana. "We fought hard and we battled well, but they were able to control court positioning a little bit better than us today. We will rest tomorrow and hit the practice courts next week as we continue to get 1% better each day."

The Blue Hens return to Newark on Thursday, April 8^th at the Delaware Field House Outdoor Courts to take on Georgetown University.
