RICHMOND, Va. – Sara D'Appolonia, Gabby Johnson and Lauren Krinsky of the Delaware women's soccer team received All-CAA Third Team praise on Thursday.
It marks the second time in D'Appolonia's career that she was recognized by the CAA with postseason honors, while Johnson and Krinsky are first time recipients.
"I am so proud of these young ladies on an incredible achievement," head coach Mike Barroqueiro said. "This was undoubtedly the toughest season of their careers with so many challenges to navigate on and off the field. To not only compete, but also excel, is a credit to the character of these kids."
D'Appolonia started in all seven matches for the Blue Hens during her junior campaign. The Yarmouth, Maine, native finished tied for first on the team in points and goals.
"This is another great step for Sara and hopefully further motivation for her to take the next logical steps," Barroqueiro said. "She is going to have a wonderful remainder to her career with I am sure more accolades to come."
Johnson appeared in five matches as a senior and tied D'Appolonia for the team lead in points and goals. One of her goals came in the season finale when Delaware bested Drexel, 1-0, on April 10 at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
"Gabby has been a fierce competitor and incredible leader for us during her entire career," Barroqueiro said. "I am so proud that everyone else is getting the chance to see what I've been blessed to witness for the past four years."
Krinsky was a staple in between the pipes for the Blue Hens, posting a pair of clean sheets with 51 saves in seven outings. The junior goalkeeper led the CAA in saves (51) and saves per game (7.29).
"I can't put into words how proud I am of Lauren," Barroqueiro stated. "It is so incredibly difficult to step into a starting goalkeeper role at this level and not only did she do that, but she proved herself to be one of the best amongst her peers! I can't wait to see what's next for her."
