NEWARK, Del. – Delaware defeated Hofstra 4-2 on Sunday afternoon to clinch the number three spot in this week's CAA Tournament. Four different Blue Hens scored, all off of penalty corners.
"I'm very excited for our team and program to have qualified for the CAA Conference Tournament!" said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "They have done an outstanding job and gotten so much better without the seniors these past four games. This all has resulted in a higher level of confidence, depth and experience for all of our UDFH players and seems to be coming into play at the right time."
The Blue Hens got on the board with one minute left in the first quarter with a penalty corner goal from Julia Duffhuis, assisted by Berber Bakermans and Ashlyn Carr.
Grace Hoepfner scored her second goal of the season in the twentieth minute off a rebound from a penalty corner strike.
Just seven minutes into the second half, junior Ashlyn Carr tallied a goal on a corner play, assisted by Emma Gladstein.
Ashley Iannuzzi scored her second goal in as many games off a rebound from a corner shot to close out the Blue Hens scoring for the day in the forty-second minute.
"One of our goals this season is to compete for the CAA Conference Tournament Championship and thanks to the great work of everybody in and around the program, the Blue Hens will have the privilege to compete for the CAA Championship and punch a ticket to the NCAA Tournament," continued van de Kerkhof. "I know my players are ready for whatever is coming next and we as a coaching and support staff will put them in the best possible position to live their dreams!"
The Blue Hens return to Rullo Stadium on Thursday, April 22nd at 4:00 pm to take on William & Mary in the CAA Tournament semi-finals.
