NEWARK, Del. – Coming off a No. 7 ranking in the FCS Committee Rankings, the University of Delaware football program held steady in the two major national polls this week, checking in at No. 8 in both the STATS FCS Top-25 and AFCA Coaches' Top-25 Poll.Â
The Blue Hens will be in the national spotlight this week when they travel to Delaware State to put their undefeated record in the Route 1 Rivalry on the line on ESPN 2.
Last time out, the Blue Hens picked up a 35-21 victory at No. 18 Rhode Island behind redshirt senior Dejoun Lee's huge afternoon, rushing for 221 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. He became the eighth player in program history to rush for over 200 yards in a single game.Â
Defensively, sophomore Chase McGowan was a force, living in the Rams' backfield. He had four tackles, all for loss, including three sacks in the win. Both McGowan and Lee earned CAA Weekly honors last week, with McGowan claiming Co-Defensive Player of the Week and Lee awarded Offensive Player of the Week.Â
The Delaware defense ranks second in all of the FCS in total defense, surrendering just 201.7 yards per game and the offense has now scored in 13 straight quarters, dating back to the 2019 season.Â
Kickoff in Dover is slated for 6 p.m. and it is the first time the Blue Hens will make the trip to Delaware State for the 10th meeting between the first state's two Division I programs. Â
