Blue Hens Set for Thursday Season Opener at Maine

ORONO, Maine – The wait for University of Delaware football just got even shorter as the Blue Hens and the University of Maine have agreed to move up the 2021 season opener to Thursday, Sept. 2 at Alfond Stadium. Game time is still to be determined.

This will mark the fifth consecutive fall season that the Blue Hens have opened up on a Thursday night with just one of those games away from Newark.

Delaware also opened the 2020-21 season against the Black Bears with a 37-0 statement win that would springboard the program to its first conference title since 2010 and an FCS Semifinal appearance.

The Blue Hens have won two in-a-row over Maine with their last trip north coming in 2017, a 31-17 Delaware victory in Portland, Maine at Fitzpatrick Stadium. This will be Delaware's first game on Maine's campus since 2013.

The Thursday-night affair will give the Blue Hens a longer week to prepare for their home-opener against Saint Francis, Sept. 11 at Delaware Stadium. Fans interested in season tickets for the 2021 fall season can visit here.
